Professional Baseball Pitcher, Paul Malholm, has certainly experienced a great deal of pain in his life. From injuries threatening his vision and career, to watching his mom lose a battle with cancer, Paul knows what it means to suffer.  But how he handled these hardships explains his reason for peace.

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” – 1 Peter 3.15

“For most of us,” observes Paul, “pain and suffering are simply an unwanted part of our journey. And when things like that happen, we can either lean into Jesus, or run away from Him.”

Paul has chosen to lean into Jesus for strength.  As he relies on the strength that Jesus offers, Paul has experienced the peace of Christ that goes beyond explanation.

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4.7

“I don’t think I could have gotten through losing my mom,” Paul says with emotional remembrance, “or getting hit in the face without my relationship with Jesus, making Him the Savior of my life.”

Paul knows that life isn’t easy. That God doesn’t promise us a life without hardship, but he knows that he can trust in God to bring him through anything.

“We can experience peace during these troubles,” Paul says, “as long as we realize one thing: Jesus has overcome the world.”

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16.33
